It depends what is involved, and it is agreed in writing in the care plan before anything starts. We are registered for personal care, so anything clinical stays with the district nurse or GP.

Who it suits: Someone whose Parkinson's is making washing, dressing or mealtimes slow and frustrating.

Parkinson's rarely moves in a straight line. Some mornings need very little help and some need a great deal, and the difference can be an hour either way. Sending the same carers means somebody who already knows the difference turns up, rather than someone meeting it for the first time.

Medication timing is the part families most often ask about. We build visits around the medication round rather than around our rota, and carers prompt and record it as agreed in the care plan.

We are a personal care service, not a nursing one. Where there is a Parkinson's nurse, a GP or a physiotherapist involved, we work around them and tell you what we have noticed between appointments — often the most useful thing we do.
