Who it suits: A family being told their relative can no longer safely be left on their own.
Round-the-clock care usually comes up at a difficult moment: after a fall, at a hospital discharge, or when somebody can no longer safely be left. It is often discussed as the last step before a care home.
For a lot of families it is the better option. The surroundings stay familiar, the routine stays intact, and the people coming through the door are the same ones as before rather than a new building full of strangers.
It takes a proper rota and it is not a small undertaking, so Ruth will come out and be honest with you about whether it is workable in your case. Sometimes it is not, and she will say so — being told that plainly is more use than being sold something that falls apart in a fortnight.

- Not quite. It is a rota of carers covering the day and night rather than one person living in the house. Ruth will explain the difference and what it means practically when she visits.
- How quickly can it start?
- It depends on the rota, and Ruth will tell you honestly rather than promise something she cannot staff. If it is a hospital discharge, ring her as early as you can.
